About : Tanjore paintings are a traditional south Indian painting style that dates back to the 17th century and started in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu. Rich and vibrant colours, a basic classic composition, shimmering gold foils placed on delicate but vast gesso work, and inlay of glass beads and pieces, or very rarely valuable and semi-precious jewels characterise these works. They essentially represent conventional gods and goddesses from ancient times.
Elegance : Tanjore paintings are thought to be auspicious and are prized antiques. The paintings are created by skilled artisans who value precision and attention to detail. These paintings beautify and add a royal touch to your decor. They're also a great present idea for any occasion.
Description: Thanjavur painting is a South Indian classical painting style that originated in the town of Thanjavur (anglicized as Tanjore). The art form's immediate resources and inspiration date back to around 1600 AD, when the Nayakas of Thanjavur, under the Vijayanagara Rayas' suzerainty, encouraged art, particularly classical dance and music, as well as literature in Telugu and Tamil, and temple painting of primarily Hindu religious subjects. It's recognised by its well-known gold finish. Thanjavur art, as we know it today, is thought to have begun in the Maratha palace of Thanjavur (1676–1855). In 2007-08, the Government of India designated it as a geographical indicator.
Rich and bright colours, simple classic compositions, sparkling gold foils superimposed on delicate but vast gesso work, and inlay of glass beads and pieces, or very rarely genuine and semi-precious jewels are all hallmarks of Thanjavur paintings. Deccani, Vijayanagar, Maratha, and even European or Company painting styles can be seen in Thanjavur paintings. The subjects of most paintings are Hindu gods, goddesses, and saints, and they serve primarily as religious icons. Episodes from Hindu Puranas, Sthala-puranas, and other religious texts were visualised, sketched, traced, and painted, with the central figure or figures (usually within an architecturally delineated space such as a mantapa or prabhavali) surrounded by several subsidiary figures, themes, and subjects. Many Jain, Sikh, Muslim, and other religious, as well as secular, subjects have been featured in Tanjore paintings.
